daily routine

We understand the importance of maintaining a fairly consistent schedule for the health and emotional well-being of your child. The following schedule is used on a daily basis, with changes occurring on special days such as holidays and in-house program days.

WLMS DAILY SCHEDULE (0-3 yrs)

6:00 am - 7:30 am - Extended day (Available)
Early drop off for children whose parents have registered extended day

7:30 am - 8:00 am - Drop Off

As the children arrive, they are greeted at the door. They hang up their bags and outer garments, exchanging their outdoor with their indoor shoes. Some children will arrive quietly and wish to begin their day slowly. Others, our “morning” people might greet the day with robust energy and waste no time greeting a friend. Children are invited to have a relaxed breakfast.

8:00 am - 8:30 am - Breakfast

8:30 am - 9:00 am - Circle time

This group activity will include calling the roll, grace and courtesy lessons, stories, songs, games, or lessons on new activities in the classroom. Sometimes, circle time is given over to a Peace Ceremony. Children help feed the animals, water the plants and perform other chores.

9:00 am - 11:00 am - Work Cycle

Children spend this time working on individual activities at a table or on a rug on the floor. There is something on every shelf for every child. Many activities require a lesson from the teacher before a child can use them. Others, such as puzzles, can be used without a lesson. A child who chooses an activity that is too difficult for him is offered something that better matches his ability.

11:00am - 11:30 am - Snack time

During this time, children can have a self serve snack from our snack area.

11:30 am - 12:00 pm - Recess

The children go outdoors for play and relaxation. Climbing on the play apparatus, sand play, and gardening are a few of the activities available in our Natural playground.

12:00 pm - 12:30 pm - Lunch

The children wash their hands, set the table, wait until all are seated before beginning, concentrate on manners and pleasant conversations at the table, take a taste of everything, pack up leftovers, throw away trash, and remain seated until everyone is finished and excused. After lunch, children help clean the tables and sweep the floor.

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm - Nap time

Children go to the bathroom, find their sleepy toy, lie down on a low cot, and listen to a story. Then we turn off the light and play soft music to help them fall asleep. This process takes about 30 minutes at least. The children are not woken up unless they wake up by themselves.

1:30 pm - 2:00 pm - Circle Time

A second circle is called. This is usually a favourite time for most children as songs are sung and books are read.

2:00 pm - 2:30 pm - Second Snack

During this time, children can have a self serve snack from our snack area.

2:30 pm - 3:00 pm - Pick Up time

Children are picked up at 2:30

3:00 pm - 6:00 pm - Extended day

The date and weather are charted and a new work or presentation is shown. This is also a time when we have many of our cultural lessons.

Children explore the prepared environment, receiving lessons and working independently. The children choose their work from the different area of the classroom.
